Do you want to understand ultimate human motivations? Different types of religious ideas permeate the whole of society, creating the basic values of every human life, according to which we make decisions, raise our children or understand concepts such as hope, guilt or honour. The study of religion will acquaint you with the religious systems of the past and present and will broaden your view of life and society.
In Religious Studies, you will acquire the ability to independently interpret religious and cultural phenomena, especially myths and rituals, to recognise types of religious preconceptions and lines of reasoning. You will get acquainted with the religious systems of the past and with the current religious life. You will learn to translate from contemporary and ancient languages and gain a broader view of life and society. You will be able to better recognise and resist demagoguery, fake news, populism or manipulation.
With us you will be able to focus on the study of religious phenomena that are important for the functioning of modern society, for example:
- initiation rituals and public celebrations;
- myths, including fake news;
- folk spirituality;
- the role of violence in religious systems.
During your studies, you will also acquire other skills that will give you a wider choice of where and what to study further, or where and how to work. We will teach you:
- good knowledge of English;
- basics of professional translation;
- familiarity with different types of information sources and evaluation of their relevance;
- work with grants and grant applications;
- good argumentation skills and ability to perform in public spaces.
