Characteristics of the branch of study Applied Informatics:
The field of study is focused on mastering the scientific research methods and system development based on the use of information technologies for collection, transmission, storage and processing in terms of data, information and knowledge. As part of the study, issues on design, implementation, evaluation, use and maintenance of systems are discussed, based on a computer in various application domains of informatics. It includes computing resources, software, organizational and human aspects, industrial and commercial applications. The emphasis is put on the creative application of computer science methods and tools to solve various real-world problems.
Objectives of the branch of study:
The aim of the doctoral study programme Applied Informatics at the Faculty of Economics and Administration of the University of Pardubice is to train highly qualified professionals who are able to carry out basic and applied research in the field of informatics in relation to other disciplines. Graduates will master scientific research methods in all aspects and forms of the process of processing, classification, storage and dissemination of data, information and knowledge through information systems with the use of information technologies at a particular level so they would be able to work as independent scientific researchers. The attention is paid to application of scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from data in various forms, both structured and unstructured.
Initial requirements for applicants:
The applicants should have successfully completed a Master's degree programme in a similar or related branch of study. In the field of informatics, knowledge in the range of knowledge at the level of the Master’s final state examination at the Faculty of Economics and Administration of the University of Pardubice (information security and cryptology, business intelligence, geographic information systems, information systems in public administration) is assumed. In the area of language skills, a minimum level of B2 English is required.
Focus and scope of required knowledge and courses:
The courses included in the standard study plan as compulsory, compulsory options or optional are designed to enable the student, in cooperation with the lecturer in the doctoral study programme, to obtain a sufficient basis corresponding to the current state of knowledge in the field to which the doctoral study programme belongs. To achieve the required knowledge, the student chooses the courses in connection with his/her research orientation and the focus of his/her dissertation.

1. Interval-valued Fuzzy Inference Systems
The aim of this dissertation is to define interval-valued fuzzy sets, to summarize the current capabilities of inference mechanisms for this class of systems, to propose algorithms for building the knowledge base of interval-valued fuzzy inference systems, to implement these systems, and to evaluate their prediction performance and interpretability on a set of benchmark datasets.

1. Evaluation of Usability of User Interfaces through Natural Language
The aim of this work is to design and verify a new way of evaluating the usability of user interfaces through natural language. The student is expected to search for existing methods of user interface usability evaluation, to design a model for user interface usability evaluation through natural language and to verify this model on experimental data.
2. The Use of Biometric Characteristics for Monitoring Crowd Behavior at Mass Events
The aim of the work is to propose and verify a new way of monitoring the behavior of the crowd at mass events through the biometric characteristics of their participants. The student is expected to research existing ways of monitoring crowd behavior at mass events, design a model for monitoring crowd behavior at mass events through the biometric characteristics of their participants, and verify this model on experimental data.

1. Big-Volume Spatial Data Processing
The work will focus on the design of an ecosystem and architecture for the storage, processing, publication and reuse of large-scale spatial data based on distributed (grids) or parallel (clouds) computing, taking into account current trends such as the use of sensor network data, participatory technologies, the principle of maintaining full control of the owner over the data or the FAIR data principle.

1. Modelling a Twin City for Smart City Concept
The dissertation will focus on modelling a selected problem for Smart Cities. It will summarise and analyse the available methods and concepts dealing with a digital twin, and apply them to proposed models of a 'twin city'. The models can optimise planning, operations, finance, and decision-making to improve citizens’ quality of life while achieving a more sustainable environment and fostering collaboration between different stakeholders. The models will be verified through a case study.

1. The use of ESG information disclosed by commercial banks under Pillar 3
The thesis focuses on the issue of information disclosure within ESG reporting under Pillar 3 - Market Discipline by commercial banks. The aim of the thesis is to verify the effectiveness of ESG reporting information disclosure, examining the extent to which this information is utilized by key stakeholders of the relevant commercial banks, as well as to design a methodology which allows to track stakeholders´ behaviour in relation to Pillar 3 information in various regions, such as V4 and CEE countries. The research ambition is to design a methodology that utilizes publicly available data, making it less time-consuming in terms of data pre-processing and language independent (given the localization of Pillar 3 disclosure information). This methodology, based on publicly available data, will enable effective monitoring of the Pillar 3 disclosure information´s impact in various regions on a regular basis. In terms of data processing, the thesis deals with the knowledge discovery across all web domains, including search queries, web usage, and web content and structure.
