The doctoral study programme reflects the needs of the labour market for highly qualified managers, both in the business sphere and in public sector institutions at the national government level, but also at the level of local governments. Objectives of the branch of study:

The doctoral study programme Economics and Management is aimed at educating researchers who will be able to work professionally at the level of international standards in their field, and highly qualified professionals able to effectively participate in the management of various economic entities in the dynamically changing conditions of the globalised world. In addition to the development of systems thinking and mastering the methodology of scientific work, emphasis is placed on deepening knowledge in the theory of selected managerial and economic disciplines and new modern management approaches and methods, in close connection with current economic, political and administrative conditions in both the Czech Republic and Europe.

Graduate profile:

Graduates of the doctoral study programme are able to apply the synergy resulting from the interconnection of managerial and economic disciplines at a high level in business management, while guaranteeing an effective interaction between theory and practice at the required educational level. Graduates are intended for top management positions in economic entities, especially in the business sphere, but also in institutions of state administration and local governments.

Initial requirements for applicants:

Applicants who have duly completed a master's degree programme in the same or a related field at a university in the Czech Republic or abroad may apply for admission to study in a doctoral study programme. In the field of economics, university knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics, business economics and individual basic economic disciplines, as well as knowledge of management is required. In the field of language skills, a good working knowledge of English is required.

Focus and scope of required knowledge and courses:

The courses included in the standard study plan as compulsory or compulsory elective options are designed to enable the student, in cooperation with the lecturer in the doctoral study programme, to obtain a sufficient basis corresponding to the current state of knowledge in the field to which the doctoral study programme belongs. To achieve the required knowledge, the student chooses the courses in connection with their research orientation and the focus of their dissertation. The student draws up an individual study plan in cooperation with their supervisor at the beginning of their studies. In addition to the courses, the study plan also lists scientific research activities, or pedagogical activities, of the doctoral student and planned study stays or internships.
